About
Every winter Art Shanty Projects hosts an on-ice celebration in the Twin Cities Area. Their program is a jubilee of performances and sculptures by local artists and activists. The board of Art Shanty Projects were looking for a redesign of their website to better reflect their energetic and DIY legacy.
Brand Redesign
Art Shanty Projects' program is all about freedom of expression, DIY, and punk culture. Their biggest ask when we discussed their rebrand was to bring those ideas into their aesthetic. After a couple of revisions and suggestions, we settled on a new brand strategy, mood board, and color palette for their program.
UX Design
The original Art Shanty Projects website had a plethora of information about the culture and history of the program. The board wanted to highlight this in the redesign. We narrowed down the kind of audience this site would appeal to and I created personas to help identify and address user needs ('the artist', 'the donator', 'the visitor', and 'the volunteer').
User Flows
The user flows on the old site did not contain a clear call for action for users. After identifying our target users, I created new user flows to give more points of connection across the site based on what the user's goal was. To help facilitate this, I created mid-page and end-page calls to action and rearranged some of the page content based on user needs. Some examples of the new user flows are shown below.
A New Site Map based on User Needs
After creating user flows and low fidelity wire frames for existing and new page layouts, I  created a new site map based on the goals of each user persona. I brought my findings back to the Art Shanty Projects Board to gain feedback.
Web Development
This site was built using WordPress and the Elementor Plugin. I met with the board of Art Shanty Projects to define the functional and non-functional requirements for the website -- these requirements can be downloaded and viewed (PDF). After the requirements were defined and the new site map and page layouts were approved, I used the Elementor plugin to rebuild the pages.
You can visit the Art Shanty Projects Website to see what they're up to and check out their winter art program.
